Chris is internationally
recognised as a leader in his field. Chris joined
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP along with the other leading franchise
lawyers from Eversheds in May 2008 where he had run the franchising practice
for twelve years. Before that he was General
Counsel and a
Vice-President of McDonald’s Europe for ten years.
Along with his
colleague Dr Martin Mendelsohn, Chris is the only lawyer
outside North America to be ranked (by recommendation of General
Counsel and other specialists) by Who’s Who Legal in the top ten
“Most Highly Regarded Individuals " of its table of twenty-two franchise
lawyers from its 2008
survey of 175 specialists in 45 countries.
Chris specialises in all
aspects of franchising, advising companies considering franchising
and alternative expansion options, joint ventures and strategic
alliances, ranging from small start-ups to major corporations
considering re-engineering and international expansion, and
government organisations. He works across commercial sectors and
has advised major national and international brands on expansion
into most parts of the world. He is retained as leading
franchise counsel to a number of major domestic and international
franchisors, advising on all aspects of the development of their
networks and ongoing relationships with their franchisees and
business partners.
Chris belongs to a number of legal and business
organisations, and writes and speaks frequently both in the UK and
overseas. He co-authored “The Guide to Franchising in UK Pubs
and Restaurants" for specialist UK publishers and is a member of
the Editorial Advisory Board of the International Journal of
Franchising Law. He is a member of the Legal Committee of the
British Franchise Association, is on the Board of the lobbying
organisation Business In Sport & Leisure
Limited . He is also a
member of the ABA Franchise Forum and IBA Franchising
Committee.Over recent years has
been consistently rated by Chambers and Legal 500 Directories as
in top rank of franchise specialists in the UK. He
is recognised in the Legal Business Guide to Legal Experts
2008 as an expert in
franchising.
