Coping with the downturn - current
issues for franchisors and retailers
9
September 2009
Field Fisher Waterhouse are hosting this free all day seminar
for franchisors on 9 September at our offices in London. Our
experts will be reviewing a number of significant emerging laws
with the potential to have an impact on franchisors and their
networks' businesses. The EU Commission recently published for
consultation the revised draft of the Block Exemption Regulation
and Guidelines which will have a significant effect on vertical
agreements of all kinds, including franchise arrangements, as it
will establish the basic competition law framework for the next 10
years from May 2010. And both the Bribery Bill and the Carbon
Reduction Bill will have an impact on many businesses as the
government responds to issues which are already having a
significant impact on the world in which we all live and work.
Businesses with significant reputations at stake (not to mention
the potential for criminal liability) will have to take note of the
changing terrain and some will certainly have to put in place
procedures to ensure they and their networks are doing what is
needed to comply.
We have also included some sessions on other topics we believe
senior management of franchisors will find particularly useful -
regular attendees of our seminars will know we aim to send everyone
away with more than a few golden nuggets for their businesses, as
well as having had an enjoyable day with like-minded
franchisors.
A synopsis of the day follows, which involves panel discussion,
and expert outside speakers from the franchise sector as well as
our lawyers. Access the flyer attached for full details of the
programme and speakers. This is an important seminar for domestic
and international franchisors and we anticipate heavy demand - so
early registration is recommended.
