With saturation of the local market and increasingly tough domestic trading conditions, UK retailers are increasingly focusing on foreign markets.  At the same time foreign retailers are entering the UK and EU markets in ever increasing numbers.  All are facing challenges such as the luxury and value puzzle, cash rich/time poor consumers, environmental issues, technological change and emerging consumer groups.
